EDI has different versions (specifications, releases).
3010, 3020, 3030, etc..... Most companies are now using 4010, 4030, or 4050.
Overall, versions/releases are the same for the most part, other than new fields, or field sizes have changed (increased).

The transaction type (I misspoke in my previous email) is 810 (invoice), 850 (purchase order), etc. for the ANSI X12. UCS (another EDI standard, mostly grocery chains) is very similar, but the numbers have changed - ie 880 (invoice).

The Segment type (data types) are such as REF(erence), PO1 (item information for a purchase order), N1 (name of company), etc.

We have copybooks for each segment for each release. REF41 is the REF segment for 4010... REF43 is the REF segment for 4030 release. We have all EDI segments stored as TXT members in a QEDISRC file.

Depending on the particular customer (trading partner's specificiations), we include only the necessary copybooks for that particular customer's release.

I hope this helps..........
Any other questions?
