I'm new to ILE COBOL. I'm trying to use the following date data types: 01 DATE-FIELDS. 05 BDATE FORMAT DATE '%M/%D/@Y' VALUE '02/23/1949'. 05 CDATE FORMAT DATE '%M/%D/@Y'. I get the following errors. * 72 MSGID: LNC1236 SEVERITY: 30 SEQNBR: 006700 Message . . . . : No PICTURE for elementary item 'BDATE'. * 72 MSGID: LNC2974 SEVERITY: 30 SEQNBR: 006700 Message . . . . : FORMAT literal, ''%M/%D/@Y'', contains a duplicate conversion specifier, '@Y', at position 8. Statement ignored. * 73 MSGID: LNC1236 SEVERITY: 30 SEQNBR: 006900 Message . . . . : No PICTURE for elementary item 'CDATE'. * 73 MSGID: LNC2974 SEVERITY: 30 SEQNBR: 006900 Message . . . . : FORMAT literal, ''%M/%D/@Y'', contains a duplicate conversion specifier, '@Y', at position 8. Statement ignored. I've used both apostrophe's and quotation marks, but no difference. These are nearly identical to the examples in the IBM Manual. Any ideas what's wrong? Michael R.
