Join of files containing the same fieldname?

Good morning.

I try to make a join file from FILE1 and FILE2.  Both files contain a
field, FIELDX, and I want both fields in the new join-file.  In the DDS, I
have the following:

FIELDA                                          JREF(1)
FIELDX                              JREF(1)
FIELDB                                         JREF(2)
FIELDX                              JREF(2)

The compile of course fails, and I have to rename one of the fields, but
how?  ALIAS?? RENAME?? (I'm not allowed to rename any fieldnames in FILE1
or FILE2)
