Try this:


       SPECIAL NAMES.
            DATA-AREA IS My-Data-Area
            LDA       IS Local-Data.
       77  Some-Data    Pic X(1000).
       77  LDA-Data     Pic X(256).

       Procedure Division.

           ACCEPT Some-Data FROM My-Data-Area
                FOR "DataArea1" IN LIBRARY "MyLib"
                WITH LOCK ON EXCEPTION Perform ErrorStuff.

           ACCEPT LDA-Data  FROM LDA.

           MOVE New-Data TO Some-Data.
           MOVE Spaces   TO LDA-Data.

           DISPLAY Some-Data UPON My-Data-Area
                FOR "DataArea1" IN LIBRARY "My-Lib".

           DISPLAY LDA-Data  UPON LDA.
