You can "nest" your PERFORM VARYING if you want. Just make sure you have an END-PERFORM for each PERFORM. For example, the code sample listed in the original message could be written as Perform Varying INDEX01 from 1 by 1 until INDEX01 is > 50 Perform Varying INDEX02 from 1 by 1 until INDEX02 is > 75 Add X, Y giving Z End-Perform End-Perform You can use IF statements as well; just close them with an END-IF instead of a period. Hope this helps! -----Original Message----- From: Chris.Chambers [SMTP:Chris.Chambers@v2music.com] Sent: Monday, November 29, 1999 12:29 PM To: COBOL400-L Subject: Re: Perform Varying Statement I have also tried this and it would seem that the editor does not like a 'perform varying' as the operation to be performed. Try putting the add statement in a seperate section or paragraph thus : Perform Varying INDEX01 from 1 by 1 until INDEX 01 is > 50 Perform ADD End-Perform ADD SECTION. ADD-START Perform Varying INDEX02 from 1 by 1 until INDEX02 is > 75 Add X, Y giving Z End-Perform. ADD-EXIT. Exit. I have not seen any examples of this structure here at my work. Should I have put and add statement below the last perform connecting them together? Example" Add (_______), (__________) I saw something of this sort in a COBOL/400 book. Would something of this sort take? Thanks for answering my question.
