Actually, RAGE does work for both *IMMED and *CTRLD program termination, as well as crashes, etc. I've used it in the past to clean up user spaces that were being leaked by a customer's application (the problem was a bit more complicated than just that, but RAGE played an integral part of the defensive solution.)

One obvious solution is to do clean up on your program entry.  Otherwise,
journaling comes to mind... but that gets complex rather quickly...
