5799PTL (iSeries Tools for Developers) and gnu.savf.zip from http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/enable/site/porting/iseries/overview/gnu_utilities.html both provide GNU make 3.77. Is there a way to get a more modern version of make? A feature of make that I want to use wasn't added at the time of 3.77's release (sometime in 1998?).
OK, I got something going. I installed PASE (5722-SS1 option 33), the system openness includes (5722-SS1 option 13), QSH (5722-SS1 option 30), and 5799-PTL. Then I put the make from ftp://aixpdslib.seas.ucla.edu/pub/make/RISC/4.3/exec/make.3.80.tar.Z on my iSeries, and it seems to work.
