Elvis,
Thanks for the links. I can get passed the error now, but the
data gets all garbled. For some reason my text files are ending up with
a CCSID of 1200, when they should be 819. They were getting created as
819 until just recently, which is strange. At least now I have a better
idea where I need to start looking for the root of the problem. Thanks
again.

Download "Runtime library functions" PDF and look through fopen

especially the "|" marks on the left as they indicate new things.

There are some parameters on the open related to CCSIDs.

Subject: [C400-L] "Conversion Error" from fopen()?

Hello,

I have some simple code that opens a file on the IFS for
reading. This was working, but then I started getting NULL from the
fopen() call. When I check errno it is set to ECONVERT or "Conversion
Error." Why in the world would I get a conversion error just opening the
file?

I know the question is a bit vague, but it really doesn't make
sense... it is just a regular old fopen() call on a text file.

fp = fopen(fname,"r");

        Anyone see this behavior before?
