Simon,

I know you mentioned QSHELL, but why not use it (the QSH command) in this
situation to manage the redirection of stdin and stdout?  Something like
the following should work:

> QSH CMD('/qsys.lib/XXX.lib/producer.pgm |
/qsys.lib/ZZZ.lib/consumer.pgm')
