Actual Implementation from 5 years ago.

Fax-ed orders sent to an efax number.
Efax sent the orders as email attachments.
Attachments manually saved into a specific directory
Directory scanned periodically using OmniPage OCR software version 12 or 13.
OCR output saved in Excel format in a 2nd directory
Excel files reviewed by sales 3 times a day (8 AM, 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM),
corrected and updated as required.
Reviewed Excel files uploaded to the AS400 using Client Access.
Client wrote program to add un-promised orders to BPCS files (don't remember
the version).
Un-promised orders were reviewed and promised by the demand manager using
Systems Plus's OTTO.
Acknowledgements with promised ship date sent to the customer.

Hello Everyone,



We have a BPCS shop (405CD) that receives hundreds of orders by fax and
types each one as a BPCS order. We are looking at developing the capability
to read the faxes by OCR and convert into an interim set of tables. The
converted data will be reviewed by the customer service reps, and upon
approval, will be fed into an existing electronic order creation module.



We have looked at options around EDI and do have an eCommerce site, but the
nature of their customers dictates this low tech approach.



Does anyone have this implemented and can you share some wisdom?
