I am not at our 400 right now, so this is somewhat from memory.
I found the GO ASSIST command for changing passwords.
I embedded it inside a CL program, with prefix SYSMSG.
I have given EVERYONE access to anything with prefix SYSMSG which I use
primarily for access to sending messages, reading messages, etc.
With exception of maybe two people, everyone is blocked from prefix SYS.
I put that CL program on a user menu which I named PASS.
I did BPCS security so that EVERYONE had access to menu PASS.
Adding menus requires no programming. If your security permits, notice some
odd words on the BPCS LOGO sign-on screen, unless company has mucked with
that picture (we have). Put cursor on those odd words and press enter.
The pop-up menu (F13 or F14 depending on where you are) is different,
depending on where you are, with respect to the very bottom options. From
the "user menus" (the ones we add that did not come with BPCS) if your
security permits, you can edit the "user menu" collection, add to the
collection of those menus, who may access them, in what sequence, what's on
them etc.
With a lot of users, and a lot of options, this can become quite tedious to
manage. Uncle Milt (UPI) has some vendor add-ons to streamline the process.
In addition at time of sign-on, there is a screen with a command to change
your password. Unless someone has messed with user default settings ...
some people had complained about the number of screens they see after
signing on, before getting into BPCS, so for them, I figured out how to
automatically bypass.
Another wrinkle to watch out for ... we have people who have figured out how
to "program their keyboards" so that their password is remembered either by
Windows or some keystroke combination, then they forget their password, or
how to change this. I asked people with laptops to pretty please do not do
this, in case they get separated from their laptops. Then the company
changed the method of remote sign-on to a system where the password must be
keyed in, it won't accept "remembered."

Subject: [BPCS-L] Adding menu options
Brand new to a very old version of BPCS (it appears to be 4.05 CD?) I
was brought in on an emergency basis to a local company that had an
unanticipated change in IT resources. So am am scrambling a bit to help
them.
They wanted everyone to change their passwords and they have done so on
the Windows side of things but because some of the users have LMTCPB Y
on their user profiles they cannot change their passwords even though it
looks like they can get to a command line.
So the question is: How do I go about adding this as an option on menus
the users have access to within BPCS? Is there a program that controls
menu items and menus or is this something that requires so programming.
Or, is there a better way to handle this?
Any pointers would be helpful.
