We are 405 CD.When we release Shop Orders, they are for one item, that can have many levels, but the shop order is only concerned with consuming materials one level down to make the parent item. Thus, to make the whole part, many shop orders needed, one for each discrete item of the part.
The engineering of a part (BOM and Routings) support many steps. Operation-1 do this whatever to make some intermediate thingOperation-2 do some work with the intermediate to get to some other intermediate stage You can have a whole bunch of these operations up to 999 before getting to the final next discrete item.
Actually we use some intermediate operations to describe the work to be done (additional description) although standards call for putting that kind of info into BPCS notes. Thus in our case, we can't use up to 999 operations. The most reportable operations we have in any of our parts is something like 2 dozen.
