Dee DeeAt version 4, and presumably in later versions, we could go into the literals message text area and CAREFULLY make substitutions, so that every place all programs used whatever, our substitution instead. If you plan to get SSA updates, it paid to have copy of substitutions in separate message file, and provision to merge your substitutions with later BMR version upgrades.
Yes, I referring to SSAZ01,SSAZ02,SSAZ03 message filesSubstitutions can include text that is more meaningful to your people, also use of some fields for other purposes than the defaults. These substitutions only within BPCS programs, not independent access to the files.
Some literals show up on multiple screens, so even if one program has room for more text, this does not mean others also do.
Hi Dee Dee The string literal information coming up to describe screen fields in WebTop (the name of the Web UI) is coming from the message ID that is painted on the iSeries display programs. And the message IDs are stored in the LX message files. This allows us to describe the display screen in a soft-coded way, so that when viewing LX in various languages, the correct translated message literal is presented to the user (based on the language used to translate the messages in the message file in the library list at runtime). Those message IDs have a length limitation that was based on the original RPG screen design, which is a design that is still used in the green screen part of the product. These same message literals have to work for both Web and Green screen. Are you saying because the green screen is restricted to less space (Curr vs. Currency), that the GUI must follow suit? Please advise when you get a chance. Thx.
