I was in the same situation - I went to V5R2 with no problem. I did follow the instructions in the BPCS APAR that IBM has.

Subject: [BPCS-L] V5R4 end of support, BPCS 6.1.01 GUI

You may remember me from my rant last year about SSA-GT's refusal to sell
me one BMR for the GUI change required for 6.1.01 GUI to work with V5R3.
Well, I was almost over it, until I got the note from a vendor about IBM
dropping support for V5R2 in April, 2007. Now I'm thinking again, and I
think I ought to at least upgrade to V5R2. Any known problems with 6.1.01
and V5R2? Thanks.
