The clients I have had who required 24X7 BPCS access typically did so by employing 1 of the following methods. First, as already stated, stop production for the length of time needed to backup and perform any required processing. The second method is to obtain a product like MIMIX or DataMirror that maintains a duplicate database on a second system or in a separate LPAR. A single system/LPAR solution is feasible provided the iSeries has sufficient disk capacity and processing capability. The data link can then be stopped and the mirrored data backed up while the host data is stored until the data link is restored. With some eye to data management it is then possible to allow for the various BPCS processes to run even though users still have access. The second method also puts BPCS into a disaster recovery scenario providing for rapid recovery to minimize the period of outage to the business. I recommend a full library(s)save and not save changed object, for if disaster happens the full save is much more reliable to recover from.
