I think the most common reason would have nothing to do with the pros and cons of different ERP.
Companies get bought out, and end up with different factories having different ERP within the same corporate structure. Upper management is able to compare how the different ones perform, and if all things are pretty much the same, or if they not bother to make the comparison, the traditional rule is for corporate HQ to convert everyone to whatever system being used by corporate HQ. In our case, when we were bought out, metrics by the factories using BPCS were so far superior to that at factories of the people who bought us out, THEY converted to BPCS. The alternative to moving all factories owned by the same conglomerate to a single ERP, is to get software that can intercommunicate between different ERP. Now I have seen reviews of that kind of product. I not know how the long term costs, pros & cons compare.

I think the second most common reason why companies would convert between ERP when they already on a darn good one like BPCS, is because the vendor does things to antagonize the client. We are in a reality in which there are too many vendors chasing too few client $, and this can lead them to do things that make clients angry enough to look for another ERP. We got to this reality because today ERP is a mature industry. Once upon a time many manufacturers did not have a computer system, or were using basics of ERP to run their companies. This meant big bucks for the ERP vendors in selling manufacturers to start using ERP for first time. That income source is gone today, so vendors need new income models.

 hi all ,

well i am new to this group and would like to know some of the reasons on
why a company would choose to migrate from a BPCS to a SAP ERP .
I also would like to get any information regarding websites where i can get
a comparison of these two ERP softwares

thank you
