Dear Mindaugas,

The suggested sales forecast data transfer from a spreadsheet
into the KMR file doesn't address several key functionality
voids in BPCS FORecasting. Bucket Brigade (tm) software
not only handles the spreadsheet to iSeries data transfer -- it
also fills those MRP100 functionality voids:

Bucket Brigade has a user-friendly interface for viewing and
maintaining forecasts in the BPCS environment which entirely
replaces MRP100. Values are provided in a scrolling list format;
users have multiple filter options for selecting what data to view.
A copy option permits users to replicate forecasts from one
item to another item, to another warehouse, or to another start date.

Bucket Brigade also has a robust reporting and selection capability.
Selection ranges include facility, warehouse, item class, planner
code, buyer code, item number and forecast date. Reports may be
sequenced by item or by warehouse and item.

This software is one of our Bells & Whistles® for BPCS
enhancements; here's an updated list of those products:

I suggest you build a couple of programs through which you can upload
spreadsheet data reliably to the AS/400. We do this through a combination
of saving the spreadsheet in dif format, uploading to the AS/400,
reconstituting the columns and rows on the AS/400 into a simple flat file
and then using another program to update budget information.

The programming for any one of these steps is not that complicated. A more
modern approach would be to use VBA and ODBC. Learning how to use VBA and
spreasheets seems to be of strategic importance for the future.
