Depending on your version of BPCS you may be able to use Variable Units of Measure in the Customer Orders. There is provision in BPCS to have a STOCKING UNIT OF MEASURE that is used in your factories, and a DIFFERENT UM with vendors or customers. We have never had occasion to use this so I not familiar with how it works exactly.

However, we had a situation where to be competitive we had to offer stuff priced with a different unit of measure than we used for everything else, and while I suggested this approach, management decision was to have me modify BPCS.

LB = Pounds
KG = Kilograms
I assume

Do your British and Canadian use different BPCS FACILITIES?
You might take a hard look at what all is supported by BPCS FACILITIES, defining things a little different.

We are make to order where the customer part # is the same as what the customer uses, but often it is the identical for several different customers ... we have our own internal # system so these customer parts are defined as BOM needing quantity one of our internal item #. That drives the MRP to get our part #, then we transfer quantity to the customer item # and it works fine, but confusing to many people.

We are a US based company working in LB. We are opening a new facility in Canada that will work with KG. They will manufacture and distribute all their products in KG. Our Canadaian customers will order in KG from both our Canada and US warehouses.

How can I define items in BPCS to accomodate for both needs?

The idea I had was to create duplicate items with a suffix of some sort for the KG managed items. When our Canadian facility or customers order it from us in the USA we would create orders in KG and debit inventory in LB in the US warehouse (using the selling U/M conversion factor from the Item Master). When they receive it in BPCS at our facility in Canada they would need to convert it to the KG based item so that it can be received and managed in KG in their inventory.

Is there a better way to handle this?
