Warm greetings from Unbeaten Path,

There were several responses to Jim's "ITH record
purging" question:

Two people advised Jim to let BPCS do the clean-
out at month end by setting the number of days of
transaction history in SYS for Transaction History
System Parameters. Lisa Abney then cautioned
about the excessive run time for the BPCS purge
program and noted that the program as delivered
    from SSA has some bugs.

There's a better way: Locksmith(TM) for BPCS --
http://www.unbeatenpathintl.com/locksmith_bpcs.htm
Locksmith software makes it much easier to
constructively use the data at a future time.

For example, can you imagine the nightmare
trying to execute a multi-year lot trace after months
of ITH record purging? You'd have to restore a large
number of monthly tapes and rebuild the ITH file.
Then, before starting the lot trace, that reconsitituted
database would have to be resequenced.

Locksmith archives historical data from elected BPCS
environments and places it elsewhere on the system
in a way that sustains user access. The integrity of
BPCS file relationships is respected and maintained.
And the software handles much more than just the
ITH headache.

Used well, Locksmith restores response time
to what it used to be when BPCS was first implemented.
It's another way Unbeaten Path takes the tarnish off BPCS:

Subject: ITH record purging

Hello All,

We are on BPCS V 6.1.01 (mixed Mode), AS/400.
Our ITH file is populated with the data of more than 5
years. We want to keep only 2 years data in ITH.

If I simply delete all ITH records with date more than
2 years old, will there be any problem for any program
because transaction sequence # from 1 will be deleted??
Or any problem in the data ??
Or please suggest any better other way to clean ITH file.

Thanks for your help.....
Jim
