Another thought occurred to me. There are companies that went through some kind of gyrations to get MRP to work satisfactorily, but that was in the past, and people have moved on to other focus, and there been people turn-over, so we forget what we had to do. I thought it might be useful to share a data base ... here is how we have populated all the fields of a typical end item ... then we can compare two companies and see what fields populated different, and talk about the role of those fields, and learn from each other. People who DO KNOW the interrelationships of some fields might then say ... hey are you having problem X? It could be because of this particular field. The magic bullet to fix that is.
