Mine's not that simple.  I'm fighting a losing battle against entrenched
policies.  We have a part number for each of several grades of steel - but
we buy it by the pound, no matter what the dimension is - then issue it by
the inch.  In other words, a 4" long piece of 1x1 steel is issued as 'each',
but so is a 2" piece of 8" diameter.....I'll never win.  Basically, we just
buy it and inventory it by the pound and ignore the issues, using physical
counts to keep track of it.

Actually, Rob, that might not be that difficult.  We have a situation
here where we buy a liquid product in pounds and stock in gallons.  We
asked the manufacturer for the proper conversion factor and used that.
There might be some differences occur, but they are cleaned up in
Cycle Counts.
