Thus, ideally, you want the lower level component orders to get closed & purged before doing that with the next level that those items were used in the production of, otherwise you end up updating costs on sub-assemblies in the absense of correct costs going into the product. One way to accomplish that is by releasing the lower component parts shop orders first, so that when you purge shop orders in shop order sequence, this gets the actual costs correctly up-to-date for you. Also if, like us, you have some fluctation in the due dates of the customer parts, you have released shop orders based on the requirements for the end items, and if you not doing that production for a while, this introduces a nightmare of adjusting due dates of intermediate components. MRP only changes dates of planned items, not firm planned by shop order release, so level 1 requirement date changes, level 2 has MRP reccomended date change & if you not change that shop order due date, level 3 is still sitting at due date based on level 1 before its date got changed. You avoid that nightmare by releasing bottom level parts & not releasing higher level until closer to date that they really need to be produced.
