We have suppliemented our BPCS navigation tools because of a large community of users who heavily depend upon Query/400, but these users are a bit vague when it comes to understanding the flow of data from BPCS file to BPCS file. I regularly run DSPOBJD to *OUTFILE with statistics on BPCS files ... which are meaningfully populated ... and *QRYDFN directory alphabetically by title connected to RUNQRY off BPCS menu of query of user choice, so they look up what's available without them needing to get into WRKQRY, then run the one they want, based on what we have. I also created a BPCS User Menu which has no menu options that work - they are 100% comments, consisting of a directory of non-accounting files, a simple chart of what's what. I also added to the DOC collection. One has a mini-essay by application Customer Order Fulfillment Factory Shop Order History etc. as the data flows from step to step, what are the files that are populated at that point The purpose of this DOC is to help the person who is creating a query ... which files make sense for them to use, depending upon their interests Also this is a good place to add information on files we have added to the collection ECIF has one record for each combination of end item we sell what customer in what facility - it contains such info as the date of last shipment & the total hours to manufacture one item, the manufacturing lead time & the cumulative lead time including purchased materials, built from BOM ... this file was created because we wanted customer service personnel access to lead times & quicky estimator ... if we accept an order for 10,000 parts, what will be the impact on the factory? There's other files we have added & of course they not mentioned in the vanilla documentation, but our query users reference notes do explain them. As you figure out bpcs standards you too many need to add to the DOC collection. I created CL with names that do not start with DOC that access the DOC so as to make them more widely available to users via BPCS menus without having to hand out SYS security access. It then also became neccessary to create a mini-document introducing SEU to users who have zero experience with how to use that IBM resource to navigate large documents on-line.
