We used HP Laser Jets and forms overlay for all "single part" forms; Meaning multiple part forms like bills of lading we're printed to a preprinted form on a pin feed printer. Other forms such as invoices, AR statements and the like we're addressed using the native ability of the HP laser Jet for forms and by passing the codes to indicate the form. The only "trick" from the as/set side was encoding the hex stream (indicating the form) to the message file and to make sure the print file did not replace non-printable characters with blanks. I can't speak to how we made the forms, but I do know it was through word and installing that "program?" onto the laser jet that produced the form. For our company, several printers would need the overlays for billing (because of reprints). Multiple copies of the invoice we're addressed by directing to two laser printers or reloading the stock and reprinting an invoice marked "copy" after the "originals" printed. > -----Original Message----- > From: Chick Doe [SMTP:Cdoe@barton-instruments.com] > Sent: Wednesday, February 28, 2001 6:18 PM > To: BPCS-L@midrange.com > Subject: Re: BPCS Version 4.05 CD to 6.1.01 Print Files > Modifications?? > > we had to go into the as/set code to make changes to these forms. a couple > of forms overlay vendors (optio, ics form) will make a claim that they can > rearrange the spool file an/or add data to the spool file, but they only > work with laser printers. if you have hardcopy forms, it looks like > as/set. wouldn't it me nice is ssa provided 'dummy' programs for these > reports/forms and let you put in your own custom program if you wanted to? > the biggest area of modifications that we have had to make is in the area > of forms! > > chick doe > barton instrument systems > > >>> Roger.Henady@thorco.com 02/28/01 02:32PM >>> > > Now that BPCS 6 is all asset, the print file changes we have done in the > past can not be easily imported in to the asset code like we could do in > RPG source.
