A member of BPCS_L asked me about this off-line, and my answer had to do with what was generally available in that person's nation & language, but I also have similar situation where I work. Management is reviewing budget for continuing education. People have had some ERP & BPCS & Computer training in the past but we move up to new responsibilities, have new hires. I think we all need periodic grounding in the fundamentals of ERP, explain this new stuff & there is no such thing as an inexpensive book "ERP for Dummies." I want us all to get some education from http://www.apics.org, read books of Olly Wight, watch the Dave Buker Tapes, attend the BPCS conventions. I have added to the User Menus with some that are directories of BPCS navigation ... every line is an "H", telling Query creators where to find the data. I pass around the latest issue of www.MidrangeEnterprise.com & other publications & share various URLs I encounter like http://www.bourkeconsulting.com http://www.mmisoft.com http://www.erpsupersite.com:8080/~1 with interesting ERP insights. Our CEO has recommended reading lists for upper management. We have had specific corporate education in the past that I thought was great & I point to those scenarios, asking that we have something similar again every couple of years. I want my people exposed to periodic classes in Query/400, data base manipulation, theory of BPCS Costing, navigating BPCS files, PC tools that are a good match with our ERP data & how to populate them correctly. But what I want is miles above any reasonable expected budget. I want to suggest to management how to get the biggest bang for any funds they can allocate. I want to suggest to co-workers where to get an improved grounding in principles of ERP without spending a small fortune. I subscribe to every BPCS newsletter I can find & I pass them around to my co-workers. We have several under utilized resources, such as UPI manuals sitting in one person office, but the 99% of the manuals & tapes that were in the conference room for corporate sharing have managed to walk away permanently. I think we may need a system of checking ERP out of a library, like we have for factory floor tools. I urge my boss to release our OSG password to more co-workers. I urge my co-workers to bookmark BPCS-L archives & use it to search for answers to questions as they come up. What am I missing?
