When you have your flag set to Shop Order Generate "Yes", when a Customer Order is entered for the parent, it automatically will create a Shop Order for the item and ALL the children marked as Shop Order Generate "Yes" under it.  Is extremely useful for Make to Order environments, since you can do a Multi Level Shop Order Release by Customer Order, which will release and print (and allocate materials, if so marked) for all the Shop Orders related to a particular Customer Order.  The beauty of it is that you can cut the chain wherever you please by not marking a particular sub-assembly as Shop Order Generate "Yes".  For example, if you manufacture containers with wheels, let us assume that the containers are made to order, however they all use the same type of wheels, let us also assume that it is not economically feasible to make the wheels to order because set up time is very long, you might mark all the assemblies, sub-assemblies and manufactured parts of the container as Shop Order Generate "Yes", except for the wheels, so that Shop Orders for all those assemblies, sub-assemblies and manufactured parts will be created automatically and released together automatically, except for the wheels, for which you will create 1 Shop Order to satisfy the wheels' requirements for all the container orders you might have. If the wheels are made of manufactured parts or sub-assemblies, obviously also these ones will not participate in the Multi Level Shop Order release.

Hope this helps,

Regards,
