Via experimentation I figured out what I needed. I now have a list of all BPCS work areas, from DSPOBJD *BASIC of *DTAARA from BPCS files library to *OUTFILE read by an RPG program which calls a CL program. The called CL does a CHKOBJ then RTV actual contents of each data area. The RPG program charts what is in each data area, selecting the first few characters, with breaks on types of data areas (characters in front of the work station address) & compares one data input to the next, printing *** at the side when one is different content than previous one in group. I have been researching what this MEANS & adding that to my report, since some mean a potential unexploded mine field for my co-workers & now this report shows me what data areas are messed up that can be cleaned up to avert the next explosion. As I figure out what combination is a problem, I have a list of work stations that need to have that problem fixed promptly Our billing has 1-7 "N"s in 4 patterns JIT order release is either YNN or PNN Production Release is mainly YNNYNN with an occaasional YNNXYN Customer Order Entry is mainly YNNYNN with an occasional YNNPNN SFC Order Release is mainly YNNYNN with a few YNNPNN XYNYNN & YNNXYN I have been trying to decipher this stuff by looking up SYS993 on various combinations, looking in the main CL by application, and digging into the on-line Logic manual The data areas come in all shapes & sizes 1 10 20 32 52 80 100 128 201 256 512 1000 1024 2.0 4.0 Is there any place that documents the programming standards involved, like XX (application) WSID (work station) is always 128 bytes Q (work station) WSID is always 256 bytes U (user) USER is always 1024 bytes Alister William Macintyre Computer Data Janitor etc. of BPCS 405 CD Rel-02 on 400 model 170 OS4 V4R3 (forerunner to IBM e-Server i-Series 400) @ http://www.cen-elec.com Central Industries of Indiana--->Quality manufacturer of wire harnesses and electrical sub-assemblies +--- | This is the BPCS Users Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to BPCS-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to BPCS-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to BPCS-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner: dasmussen@aol.com +---
