Devin,

Thank you very much for your help.

I have since forwarded your investigation to my boss as well as my staff.

I have not had success with the OGS Frequently Asked Product Questions.
I am sure I am doing someting wrong.

I log on to the http://ogs.ssax.com/clients/default.htm
Enter my userid & password.

I go to the drop down box and select:

5. Frequent Product Question Infobase

Enter my platform: "AS400" my version: "6002"

I have used both "Issue" as well as "Search the Entire Data Base"
Without success.

It works for you and not for me, maybe it is because I am a client.

Thank you again for your input.

Sincerely,

Chris Ertz

Subject: Re: Customer Service - Available to Promise in 6.0.02

Chris,
I've seen this function grayed out before and honestly can't remember
whether this has a BMR or not (call the helpline - there are loads of
rejected BMRs for ATP not working in v6002 and BMRs that seem to indicate
that it is available in some form).
All this option in Order Entry does (when it's not grayed out) is call a
program equivalent to MRP310B and I believe fill in the item # from the
order line (though I would not swear that you don't have to re-key the item
# and this sort of rings a bell!). Like I said, there may be a BMR that
would enable this function on your version, but if you give CSRs the
security for MRP310B and they keep it open in the background, you'll have
just about the same functionality.
Most people don't find that this program meets their needs for true ATP
anyway (some write their own ATP inquiry - not too hard to do). v6.1 adds
some more logic so the thin client Order Entry can do things like "do ATP"
for one or all lines and then use the calculated ATP dates as request dates
(just a FYI in case you were planning the upgrade). Items have ATP allowed
flag, etc.
Here's some info I found on OGS FAQs (one FAQ entry says ATP does not work
on v6002 at all, the other says that you get a fatal error when you click
the option [which indicates to me that it at least "works"] - just call
Helpline - this first FAQ was added very early and may not be true today):
Platform: A400
 Product: COM
 Version: 6.002
 Program: ORDERENTRY
 Log Date: 1997-08-14
 By: DOMPKED
 Incident #: 0454048
Issue: Why is Available to Promise grayed out?
Solution: This option is for future use in 6004.
Platform: A400
 Product: COM
 Version: 6.002
 Program: COM
 Log Date: 1998-03-04
 By: PYEJ
 Incident #: 0501857
Issue: If during order entry the Available To Promise look up function is
used a fatal error occurs and a screen message appears 'fatal error -
system
not available'.
Solution: V6.002 only. The Available To Promise (ATP) is an ODO
application and to access it from COM the user needs to have the "2nd
Generation" clients running.
