Andreas,

The way we do it here is to define a printer profile on the PC that prints
to FILE: instead of LPT1: or equivalent.  The type of printer is
Generic/Text.  Create a printer session in your emulation software that
references this printer profile.  Send your printer output to this printer
session and it will then ask for the name to save the text file as.

Regarding your solution #1, this sounds like a bug in Client Access.  Have
you kept up to date with your service packs?
