You can archive everything _while_ you're deleting, or archive _after_
deleting...  Check out http://www.arctools.com .  ARCTOOLS will do a couple
things along these lines (in addition to a bunch of other stuff).  It will
allow you to purge (or archive) without programming and without locking
files.  So, if the BPCS purge program is prohibitively long-running, you can
still do it.  Ditto if there is no existing purge program for your desired
file.

Second, it will allow you to add the archiving feature to any existing purge
routine without programming.  So, you can run your regular purge job, then
run ARCTOOLS afterwards.  It will actually un-delete the deleted records and
put them in your archive library for you.

In addition to this, it supports backing archived data off to tape and
provides reports to help you find the archived data you're looking for.

There are several BPCS user already running ARCTOOLS.
