This e-mail is in response to the following question: Subj: BOM set-up V's Allocations Date: 1/11/00 3:49:14 AM Central Standard Time From: gordon.coen@abbott.com (Coen,Gordon) Sender: owner-bpcs-l@midrange.com Reply-to: BPCS-L@midrange.com To: BPCS-L@midrange.com Hopefully someone out there can shed some light on a problem I am having. For some reason usage code seems to be affecting the ability of an entire BOM to auto allocate. For example I have a BOM with 5 parts , 1 of which is set-up with a usage code of 0 (fixed quantity). When I open a shop order for the parent part all 5 components need to be manually allocated. If I remove the usage code then all components allocate automatically. Are there some unwritten rules out there on usage code (and perhaps bounded disposition) messing with allocations ?????? TIA, Gordon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gordon: I can NOT think of why the Usage Code of 0 (Fixed Quantity) for one of your components should impact auto allocations for the entire BOM. Have you tried the following situations: 1. Does it make any difference which Component (such as first or last) has the Usage Code of 0? OR, is it whenever any component in the BOM has a Usage Code of 0? 2. You mentioned that when you open a S.O. for this BOM, all components must be manually allocated. Does a message print on the Shop Packet Materials Page? 3. Does the same situation occur if you Reprint the Shop Packet and select re-allocation? 4. If you go into the Lot/Location Alloc/Inquiry and attempt to auto-allocate a specific component line, does the program perform the allocation? 5. Have you checked with the SSA Helpline or OGS regarding such a problem? Perhaps, there is some other condition that is impacting this problem? Les Mittman BSI Consutling, Inc.
