  • Subject: Re: Need exchange rate 15.8 instead 15.7 - same type of requirement as eurotriangulation

Mssr. Prilin:

Your problem goes well beyond the CCNVFC field in the GCC file. BPCS
muti-currency exchange rates are are hosted by a wide variety of files
including RAR, ECH and HPO to name a few. If you were considering a
database change to GCC to handle the extra precisional requirement you
have, you would also need to look at expanding exchange rate fields on a
system-wide basis.

Your requirement is the same that is required to euro-enable BPCS for
triangulation. Nexgen studied BPCS exchange rate precision and found
something surprising. It turns out that existing BPCS multi-currency
processing would be capable of meeting the euro triangulation requirement
if only the exchange rate fields (currently sized at 15,7) had greater
precision. Some may argue, but this is an undisputible fact. Bear in mind
that actually implementing an exchange rate field with the necessary
precision poses many problems that I will not go into here.

What Nexgen has done, is to invent a method (don't worry, we're not going
to patent it ;-) whereby the exchange rate fields in the database can be
left as is (15,7), but the programs using those exchange rates are able to
take advantage of a corresponding expanded precision required by the
multi-currency calculation. This soultion not only answers the euro
requirement but would handle your requirement for expanded precision as
well, all without database changes.

Note also that with this approach, the exchange rates in your files AFTER
applying this solution have exactly the same values and are readily
discernable as exchange rates compared to BEFORE the solution was applied.

Hi,
Does enyone know how to define parity 100 : 1 for currency ?
We have problem with ITL (Italy). Value of rate in my country is with 6
decimal places and parity 100 for ITL (and SIT, GRD, JPY).
For 100 ITL rate is 0.392891. In BPCS parity is 1, and rate is 0.0039289.
The last one make problems.
Field CCNVFC in GCC file is 15.7. I don't thing it only problem here in
Croatia.
Thanks, and Bye
