Here is some IBM information on Y2K PTFs distributed through our local
Evansville *BASE/400 user group.

I just got my home PC back after a collection of major upgrades that took a
couple weeks & not all the interfaces are "right" yet - while I was PC
deprived I jotted down some stuff I intend to share on BPCS-L soon, including:

Aftermath of INV900 bomb
Costs Hidden
Rates Mixed in same Work Center
Old Customer Order details we want to "go away"
SQL Reference
Gotchas when installing an SSA upgrade

& feedback to some active discussions about when my PC went in for an upgrade
I expected to get done sooner than the reality. I will have separate e-mail
to e-friends outside BPCS_L on my upgrade adventure.

BPCS 405 CD Rel-1 on path to Rel-2 & beyond

Now that we are getting closer to year end we need to be giving our
customers a consistent message in regards to Y2K PTFs . As you can see
from the data below some of the cums are becoming dated in regards to how
many of the Y2K PTFs will be present on them.
Here is what we should be recommending to customers now until the end of
the year:

We have found that customers do not clearly understand the intent of the
Y2K Group PTFs. It was never IBM's intent to have customers continually
monitor and apply the PTFs contained within this group. The intent was to
provide customers with an easy way to obtain all Y2K related PTFs, to be
applied to systems, prior to performing any Y2K testing.

To avoid confusion, there are only two different Y2K Group PTFs. SF99201
is the Group PTF number for V320, and SF99200 is the group ptf number for
V370 through V440. This way you get all the Y2K PTFs available at that
time through ordering one of these numbers and all Y2K PTFs applicable to
your release will be applied when you apply the group.

The PTFs contained within the Y2K group, once applied to a system, provide
for the establishment of a base to perform Y2K testing upon. Once Y2K
testing has been completed, customers should only need to monitor the
AS/400 HIPER PTF listing to evaluate additional PTF requirements. This
should be part of any AS/400 system management process.

Service delivery should not be recommending that customers order the Y2K
group PTFs for systems which have already completed Y2K testing.
Customers, that have not completed Y2K testing, should be advised of the
Y2K Group PTF existence and its intent. In all other cases, service
delivery should perform the normal PD/PSI when working with a customer.
Never recommend that the PTFs contained within a group be applied with the
hope of resolving a problem.

We have added additional information to the Y2K Group listing to make it
easier for customers to determine where they are.

Date (when added to a Group PTF)
   APAR Number
   Product ID
   Version,Release, Modification (of the product)
Cumulative PTF Package Identifier (once the PTF has been placed within a
   cumulative PTF package)

=============================

PTF Number Date Added APAR # Product
ID VRM Cum ID
          **************************
          SF59076 xx/xx/19xx SA85048 5716SS1 370

          SF58998 xx/xx/19xx SA84965 5769SS1 410
          SF58999 xx/xx/19xx SA84965 5769SS1 420

  Y2K PTF facts:
Cum packages are a built and made available on a schedule. Their
content is fixed, at the time the package content is cutoff. Content
cutoff is roughly 4-5 weeks prior to ship. PTFs coming out after the
package is cut off to be built, are candidates for the next cum package
to be built for that release.

Y2K PTFs are treated like HIPERs in that they immediately qualify for
   the next cum package.

Y2K group PTFs. One order delivers media with Y2K PTFs. Simple,
