I hear this a lot from people and I am curious how putting a data collection application on a different platform from the AS/400 will give you 24/7 availability. Don't the other platforms have to be backed up as well, or do you mirror your servers? We shut down the AS/400 for backups for 2 hours a night but we also backup our servers everynight as well. I see benefits to having these applications on other platforms but availability doesn't seem to be one; especially if you compare unscheduled down time of our networks versus our AS/400. We are not currently utilizing a data collection package but are looking to in the future so I was very happy to see this dialog start.
