To map a message ID string with enclosed variables, you could use the
'retrieve message description API' - QMHRTVM.  The variables need to be
concatenated together and passed as a single string.  The API will then
imbed these into the message definition and pass back the result.

If you are trying to display a message within an AS/SET program use e.g.:

K    DSPMSG   *NONE,'EDX9004','SSAZ01',MDATA

where MDATA is a single field containing the concatenated &1, &2 and &3
substitution values.
