If by "step-through" they mean walk through every record, I say balderdash, but
if they mean take each converted file and use the BPCS application screens to
verify that their were no major errors in the conversion (for example a MOVE
instead of a MOVEL or vice versa) I agree totally. I regard spot checking a
"reasonable" number of records in each converted file as an absolutely necessary
step in quality control. Basically you want to bring up a few of the converted
records, and force each tested record to go through the normal BPCS edit checks.
Usually this is as simple as changing a field, I like to change description
fields because they are normally not edited. Course if the description comes up
blank, I would leave it blank to make sure the blank field is not a fatal error
in BPCS land. But no way would I take the time to bring up every record in the
file. Unless of course we are talking an "extremely" small file.
