>From Al Macintyre now on BPCS 405 CD > We can't run BOM900 as it takes 4 days to run over our data base and we > can't shut down for 4 days Has BOM900 always taken 4 days for you, or only since this low level problem started? It takes about 20 minutes for us with pretty much the same record volume that took perhaps 5 hours for us on BPCS/36. > Anyone experiencing incorrect low level codes on your item master? We have > over 1000 records where the parent has a higher number than the child. You might look back at what anyone might have been doing when this started, and what is your oldest backup, that might be before when the problem began. We use daily backups in rotation & a monthly backup off-site & older backups related to when software packages went on & off-line. It is extremely rare that we can justify the hassle of going back to a backup into the past, but that is an option. A neighbor company (about 40 miles away from us) on BPCS/36 apparently used IBM reorg on many BPCS files & managed to get pointers out of sync where records are supposed to be in a sequence that the programs are expecting for READ next record & advised us that they found out the hard way to NEVER use IBM reorg on BPCS Bill of Material. In another thread I talked about the problem of granting command line authority to some end users who do not comprehend why thou shalt not use DFU to update BPCS files through the back door. Do you have command line authority extended to people who could have touched the file contents with non-BPCS software? Our Y2K conversion was spectacularly fast because various normal practices were suspended which means a higher volume of bugs were created & I finding some very soon after the conversion --- do you have modifications to the software that updates the fields in question?
