Normal response is 2 seconds or less. Very acceptable. The problem is the wrong sized box by SSA. I was looking for what other SSA customers had run into. Currently working with my local IBM branch (whom I trust) and in negotiations with SSA. If you need to purge and/or archive some of your data to speed things up, check out http://www.arctools.com . We have a purging and archiving tool set that BPCS shops are using to clean out some of the excess. The seven minute response time scenario is obviously unworkable. If these jobs are hogging 80% of the CPU, then it's probably not I/O bound, unless it's creating logical views or opening query files, etc. What is the load on the box in that situation? What is the response time during off peak times? If it's still in the dreadfully unacceptable range, I can't imagine that simply throwing more hardware at the problem is really going to fix anything. Is the program being handed an impossible task, or is the architecture of the program a problem? Good luck. ----Original Message----- From: mitchell@nexgensoftware.com <mitchell@nexgensoftware.com> To: BPCS-L@midrange.com <BPCS-L@midrange.com> Date: Tuesday, February 16, 1999 5:35 PM Subject: Re: BPCS Performance Problems > > > >Dwight, > >You wrote: > >|We are interested if anyone else has had the problem of receiving an AS/400 >|mode with about 250 users spread across 6 sites.
