You might want to try using SFC350 Material/Capacity Availability. You can enter the parent item and the qty required and it will explode the BOM for you. Any component with an asterisk indicates that the qty will cause an shortage for that component. This works in version 4.02 and 6.02. (In ver 4.02 it actually highlights the line.) Hope this helps.
