The BRZ Home page seems to have disappeared, or they’ve renamed it. But the BPCS Resource Zone (which it refers to) is still active and can be found at: http://208.12.98.115/index.htm Attached is a list of the PC Lockup posts. Bernard Burchell bburchell@precosis.com.au ----------------------------------------- From: Merrell, David <DAVEM@lucks.com> Date: Thursday, September 10, 1998 5:37 PM Subject: BPCS Lockup W95 desktop We are new install of BPCS Full client server 6.02. We are finding a nagging lockup on the client side (W95) when ever you get more that two BPCS applications open. We are looking for a live installation that is having or has had this problem and may know of the cause or a suitable work around. Call or e-mail the me if you can help. Thanks much. Dave Merrell davem@lucks.com 206-674-7284 ----------------------------------------- From: Garry Jackson <garryj@us.ibm.com> Date: Thursday, September 10, 1998 10:15 PM Subject: Re: BPCS Lockup W95 desktop Dave, could you give us specifics on the hardware you are using? We are also implementing 6.02 C/S and have experienced occasional lockups, but it has generally been due to a specific hardware (PC) situation or, less frequently, a specific BPCS program being run. We've also run into rare cases where TCP/IP using applications tangle up with each other and lock up the PC. As you know, BPCS, Lotus Notes, web browsers all are TCP/IP users and if you are connected to a LAN and dialing up to a ISP at the same time, that can cause a problem as well. Your comment about two applications open at least opens the door to PC resource problems. We try to use at least P166, 32Mb RAM for a BPCS PC. Garry C. The users are not on the net and not dial up to an ISP. We have tried to through resources at the problem and it does not seem to reduce the number of lock ups. Having only two BPCS apps open seems to be the only factor. The typical user has Outlook, one or two CA400 sessions open, and BPCS. We are part of a user group with this profile and every member of the group has this same problem. Most frequently occurs in Accounts Payable but does happen in other apps. The only solution we've heard so far is to use Windows NT> We are currently working with SSA--have 4 client patches in house and one of their techs here today-- to see if we can resolve this. We've dealt with it for a year! ----------------------------------------- From: Graziano, Marie <mgraziano@badgermeter.com> Date: Friday, September 11, 1998 2:20 AM Subject: RE: BPCS Lockup W95 desktop Take a look at all the INI files. Check that record sizes are all less than 100. It could be that you are not hanging but reading all records into memory. Also, I do know that we hang only if we have a 16bit application open or was opened. We use ccmail and if the user has gone into mail, closed it and then goes into CEA they will hang after a few transactions. We also are using TCP/IP and in the workstation settings make sure that the timeout is set to 90. A/P was our 1st live app. Our IS group just yesterday discussed the possibility of going to NT. Have you tested the NT theory? There are several postings there on how to clear up this problem. http://www.brz4eis.com ----------------------------------------- From: JALiberty@lozier.com <JALiberty@lozier.com> Date: Friday, September 11, 1998 7:08 AM Subject: RE: BPCS Lockup W95 desktop Not yet, plan to do so next week. I've just learned that this problem is not server related so it happens on both the AS400 and the HP platforms. ----------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: DAsmussen@aol.com <DAsmussen@aol.com> To: bpcs-l@midrange.com <bpcs-l@midrange.com> Date: Monday, November 16, 1998 4:31 PM Subject: PC Lockup Problem w/V6 >Hey Folks! > >I have a new client who's greatly interested in the PC Lockup problem posted >here a while back.
