Judy,

In a message dated 98-07-21 22:01:58 EDT, you write:

Good luck! (You're going to need it!)

Most of the new BPCS is written in AS/Set, COM (ORD500) and all of the
financials are written in ODW. ODW is _supposedly_ GA now, but I have yet to
hear of anyone outside of SSA actually receiving a copy.

I've not heard of any, although I'd be more than glad to offer any advice for
free on this forum. SSA's courses still follow the AS/Set tutorial (you got
the manual with the package, although it's probably on CD-ROM now) ver batim.
Unfortunately, the AS/Set Tutorial examples _aren't_ how SSA used AS/Set for
BPCS.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time and money on the SSA courses. You can go
through the tutorial on your own, and not have to put up with an idiotic
instructor that can't answer your larger questions anyway because they've
never written a lick of non-AS/Set code in their life. If they're still
available, I'd review the BPCS "shell" documentation in relation to AS/Set.
Unfortunately, we were told that the "shells" that we used under 5.1.01 were
not updated for 6.0.02 (formerly in application set SHELL5101). We _did_ find
that the 5.1 shells would work with V6, however.

You mentioned consulting in your subject, but not in your note. AS/Set
consultants are expen$ive and, despite the cost, _good_ ones are hard to find.
My current primary client has cycled _eight_ through over the last two years,
with myself and one other remaining throughout. There just _aren't_ that many
folks out there with both AS/Set _and_ BPCS experience that aren't working for
SSA or an affiliate. ESC is booked through Y2K, but I'd be glad to help you
pre-qualify anyone you were trying to hire in this area...
