John, In a message dated 98-01-27 16:01:32 EST, you write: > We are an automotive company and prototyping 6.04 in two of our > European facilities. We're going right from custom software to 6.04 on > AS/400's. I'll give my standard disclaimer that, most companies running custom software will _NEVER_ be happy with a package. Those companies that aren't convinced that they "do business differently than everyone else" (despite the fact that APICS rules apply to everyone) are either used to being able to "cheat the system", or have genuinely devised simpler methods of entering data that the "packages" (in their effort to be "all things to all people) don't handle so simply. > I would like to hear about some successful launches of 6.02 in a > manufacturing environment and if you are using any of the ECM > capabilities? We don't use ECM, but you're probably better off "installing from scratch" rather than trying to upgrade. Most of our problems moving from 5.1.01 to 6.0.02 have involved either problems with SSA's conversion programs, or operational differences between 5.1.01 and 6.0.02. I'm just thankful that we don't run the accounting modules or Customer Order Management. I understand that implementing the latter is where the "real" problems surface. We run MM (Mixed Mode) and have no doubt that we can meet our implementation schedule -- getting decent performance is another question... JMHO, Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc.
