Brad,

What about needing so many objects/files for just one application...
routes, views, plus everything else. Things get confusing...

I sympathize. Yet, I wonder if equivalently complex web applications in .NET, PHP, or Java are really any less complex. The complexity may simply be better hidden from developers. Developers who are very familiar with node, and have a favorite set of libraries and frameworks for web development, might not blink twice at all the moving parts.

One might argue this reflects the immaturity of node. But I don't think this is a fair expectation of node. It would be like saying the Java Virtual Machine because is immature because it doesn't contain all the capabilities of the J2EE platform. A standard, fully integrated stack of libraries and frameworks for server-side web JavaScript development should be developed independently of node. After all, node may not be the only server-side JavaScript runtime forever.

Thanks,

What about needing so many objects/files for just one application...
routes, views, plus everything else. Things get confusing... Then there's the server side js vs client side. :) My head is spinning haha..

And I don't find jade any more intuitive than HTML... but at least it has includes. :)

I was able to duplicate an app (well, the basic functionality) I have that generates license keys for our software that is written in RPG to node. I can't say it was any quicker to develop at all.. but then again RPG is like second nature... js I'm pretty good at, but it's the structure of the routes, views, etc and then jade on top of it... I'm not sold yet, but I like it better than Ruby so far.

Another small irritant is that you cannot have your web app listen on
multiple ports (like 80 and 443 for SSL). You have to have two (or
more) instances of the app running, or put a proxy in front of it.
