RDI is just based on Eclipse so if you tell it to go ahead and update even if it is showing errors it will do it however the result will be unfortunate. Your colleague is not unique, unfortunately.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: [WDSCI-L] IBM Rational Developer for i 9.8.0.1 fixpack is now available!
Yesterday I downloaded the fix pack and successfully installed it on my PC. I never updated RDi with "Update Software", because we need to update several computers and we do not want everybody dowloading a gigabyte from the Internet. That is way I always place a copy of the update package on an internal server. Then I use "Install New Software..." and add the new package to the repositories. In the past that worked fine.

But I had to re-install RDi on a colleague's PC, because that guy attempted to update 9.6.0.12 to 9.8.0.1. Naturally that did not work, because 9.6 uses the installation manager and 9.8 is a "pure" Eclipse application. Updating 9.6 to 9.8 crashed the old installation.

I am not sure for a 100% that updating 9.6 to 9.8 should have worked. But I am not surprised that it did not work. So maybe there had to be a validation stopping the update attempt.

Thomas.

It would be nice if the fix pack actually worked. I couldn't install it using the RDi functions and when I installed it manually, it rendered my RDi useless. Still waiting on IBM to explain that and how to uninstall the fix pack and get back to version zero.

Elden,

Before manually adding certificates to your local JVM, it's generally
best practice to check with your IT team to see how or why they are
blocking them. They may prefer to whitelist the site for all users.

One common issue besides Zscaler is LDAP Directory issues. Contact
your IT Department to include this certificate if you are using LDAP over LDAPS.

It could also be that your Anti-Virus tool has "SSL Scanning" blocking
SSL/TLS. If that is the case, check with your IT Department on how to
proceed.

Here's how to get the IBM public.dhe.ibm.com certificate to install:

Open the repository
https://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/awdtools/rdi/v98/
in a browser.

You can then click on the URL, and click on the Connection is secure.

Then click on the Certificate is valid.

Once you have the certificate open, you can click Details, then at the
bottom you will see Export...

Export it and save the certificate.

Then you can follow Chris's instruction on adding that certificate,
using the name you saved instead of the Zscaler.cert.

Steve. I already did the update. I was just wanting to get the built
in update feature working properly. Because it has been failing since
the day I installed the software.
