That is what I thought. However, Dave is right, you *could* choose to buy an upgrade on a smaller box in your "fleet" and that would give you access to the latest and greatest. But, given the likely vintage of your systems, even an upgrade on a small system would be outrageous.

You could of course buy yourself an entry level 515 Express for $7995.00. You'd get WDSc AND a rippin' fast box to boot!

Thanks all.
Just for clarification...we don't currently have an SWMA...that is the
reason for the high cost.

Dave,

If they don't have SWMA (Software Maintenance Agreements) then they have to pay for an upgrade. Generally, you can pull PTF's and CUME's even without SWMA but an upgrade requires the *SPENDMONEY command.

Are they charging for upgrades now? I've been out of the administration side for a number of years, so if I missed something, I apologize. It's just that it always used to be free (or only a nominal media charge) as
long
as you were current on software maintenance.

Before giving up, though, is the cost of the upgrade for just one system prohibitive? As I suggested before, you don't need to install it, either
on
that one system or company wide - just get the media, install WDSCi 7 on
PCs
or server, and then store the boxes somewhere.

I spoke to my superior after reading your post and was told that an
upgrade
to V5R4 may cost approximately a million dollars due to the number of boxes.
As a consolation he did tell me that it was scheduled to upgrade our last
box to V5R2...doh...
