IMO, the compare and merge facilities are very weak. CODE has a much better compare, the one in RSE is Eclipse-based and includes the source date and sequence number, IIRC. I had reported this to IBM, and I believe there might be some changes in the offing.

There is also a compare with in an iSeries project - again, Eclipse-based - same issue there. But it is editable.

There is nothing, however, that works so well as PDM option 55 on the green screen, with its split screen for selecting the changes. This IS an option in the table view, but you do not get to select what change you want to use. It is like saying the "do not select changes" parameter is set to *NO. I consider this a dangerous, time-wasting option.

If you want to run the traditional CMPPFM command in WDSCi, you can do the following.

Set-up:

1. Install the SoftLanding plug-in to view spooled files. (This is free.)

2. Create a User Action to compare physical file members. Here is the command I used to define my User Action:
CMPPFM NEWFILE(&L/&F) NEWMBR(&N) OLDFILE(&L/&F) OLDMBR() OUTPUT(*PRINT)
My User Action is named "Compare Members". Be sure to put a check in the Prompt first box.

How it works:

Right click on the source member and choose User Actions. Choose the Compare Members action (or whatever you named it). When the dialogue window appears, you should only have to type in the old source member name and press Enter. Then use the SoftLanding plug-in to see the results.

For source compare I open both source members in code 400, and use that compare which is really great. I wish that Lpex did the same type of compare.
