That page is about doing advanced JNI coding when the ordinary RPG support for calling Java methods isn't sufficient.

RPG's EXTPROC(*JAVA) support uses JNI under the covers. I recommend first looking at the basic RPG support. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_72/rzasc/javint.htm
