Note that this will not work for OPTIONAL parameters. It only works for OMISSABLE parameters. The caller must pass a NULL pointer in the omissable position. They cannot pass nothing at all. Passing a NULL pointer from the command line is ... difficult.

I note the CALL command help text states:

The value *N cannot be used to specify a null value
because a null value cannot be passed to another
program.

It is obvious that a null value CAN be passed to another program but perhaps not via the CALL command. I haven't tested the veracity of the statement.
