Yes, the 5494 manual is some help, but it's not exactly complete,

I don't agree with that at all. The old 5250 manual has stuff all over the place. You really have to pick information out of it. The Chapter 15 in the 5494 Reference at least has a logical sequence to the information and contains far more detail than the old manual.

And the TN5250 and TN5250e RFCs are also of some use.

True, I'd forgotten about those.

I remember being told once that docs for some features (like attributes
that don't take up screen positions, and/or go beyond the basic 5250
attributes) were available in a manual that was only available under
NDA. Since there was never any demand for that level of emulation
fidelity (probably because almost nothing uses such features), we
declined to pursue it any further.

While there may be some additional information available under NDA (specifically the 5250 Display Station and Printer Pass-Through Interface Specification which is available under LIPI) the "attributes that don't take up screen positions" are described in the 5494 Functions Reference. Refer to Write Extended Attribute Order on page 15-14.

As far as I know the only "terminal" that can display these extended attributes is PC5250. None of the other emulators support them primarily because DDS does not expose them.

Simon Coulter.
