Isn't RPG intuitive enough to figure out that if the current month ends
in 31 and the previous month (whatever that happens to be) is <> 31 to
just go the previous day closest to it?

I certainly would hope so. God forbid I have to program some ridiculous
function to do that when practically every other language can handle it.
